May 22, 2026Trump justified his Jan 29 executive order imposing an oil blockade on Cuba by claiming its government poses “an unusual and extraordinary threat.” Since then, as the Trump administration has rolled out a new wave of punishing sanctions, it has also ramped up its rhetoric portraying Cuba as a national security threat to the US.
