Press freedom advocates on Tuesday forcefully condemned the Republican-dominated Federal Communications Commission—and FCC Chair Brendan Carr in particular—for moving to challenge Disney-owned ABC’s broadcast licenses as President Donald Trump again pressures to network to fire late-night television host Jimmy Kimmel.
“The First Amendment and the FCC’s mandate do not permit the agency to use broadcast licenses as weapons to punish broadcasters for constitutionally protected content they air,” declared Freedom of the Press Foundation chief of advocacy Seth Stern.

So you prefer to put your head in the sand? good for you… no wonder your country is crumbling around you
PS: it really cannot be “paranoia” when you are admitting it is actually happening but you think it’s out of your control…
I’ll just add to this thread: Being naive is a problem, sure. But dooming and refusing to be optimistic about the possibilities for the future plays into fascists’ hands, because we limit our imagination to whatever worst-case we expect, growing resigned in advance to their moves.
The only way out of this is to keep demanding a fair and just world - including through our expectations - while also preparing for the other side to do everything possible to derail it.
You have a point regarding mindset, but I would encourage people to stop hoping for change. Be the change you are hoping for - help each other to survive in a world where we can’t rely on goverment support.
Start mutual aid networks, reach out to peers and strangers alike, share resources/skills/knowledge, learn how to set up mesh networks/use amateur radio gear for communication, build sustainable shops where actual useful stuff is produced, etc.
Have plans for how to reach your community quickly in different kind of emergencies.
Look at how organizations in countries that are further ahead when it comes to living under fascist rule have survived and built their networks. You’re not alone, people have had to deal with and live under way way worse conditions than you and got stories/strategies to tell.
I’m not saying you need to build some kind of militia or go off grid. But this kind of infrastructure can be used regardless of how the future pans out where you live. It can be used right now, by and for those that lack the resources that others have, and has been left out in the cold by their government.
Best case scenario: Politics change to the better and you now have a strong, well-organized community that can put pressure on local politicians to keep it that way.
Worst case scenario: Regardless of politics, you and others have the means to keep on living through your community, and the amount of leverage the fascists have on your community has been reduced.
My head in the sand? I just dont subscribe to the constant perception, on both sides, that the other side is the end of democracy as we know it.
Do I think Trump would like that if he could do it? Absolutely. Do I think that will be the outcome? No, I dont.
The fear mongering ad nauseum is what got us Trump to begin with. Republicans constantly being fed this idea the Democrats are the end of democracy, and if you disagree you’re just a RINO, led us down this path. People who parrot the same on the left are just as bad.
If people are convinced their vote doesnt matter, they wont vote and youre feeding that.
But hey Im just being pragmatic about the state of things and whats within my capacity to control. Fuck me, right?
“Both sides” 🤡🤡🤡
Yes, saying “I prefer not to live like the world is crashing down when its entirely out of my control.” clearly implies you rather ignore the stuff you know is happening but you feel it’s out of your control
Ok, being positive is definitely not a bad thing… but then I need to ask, how do you expect the outcome to be any different?
Hmmm no, the absolute inability for Americans to defend their own rights and even just vote got your trump and continues to allow him to do as he pleases
I am actually pushing the other way… for action not inaction… my original post refers to the constant reply I get from americans saying “we are not there yet” and thus they will do nothing but wait and see
Well, while you are being pragmatic the global economy is in shambles, thousands of people (many many children and women) are being slaughtered and democracy is being eroded, all directly linked to the actions taken by your country.
But who cares about those people, right?! I mean, you seem to be OK for now so that is really all that matters.
You’re right, it is all that matters to me. I simply do not care what is happening on the other side of the globe.
I disagree with it, but I certainly am not going to hang my emotions on it. If I worried myself over what 8 billion other people are going through id never get any sleep
Good for you to be honest… but just remember this when something is happening to you and nobody runs to help you
