even banning trans people from enlistment is intentional for keeping people they don’t like down. historically in america military service has been a MASSIVE social stepping stone for the underprivileged. it’s hard for them to call you a coward when you fought in a war for them. it’s hard for them to say you would be a bad neighbor when you were a good brother in arms.
many black families used it as their first step out of poverty and into acceptance. now trans people, who are derided as cowards and corrupting influences on your community, are being denied that privilege. vance and co. are very aware of this.
That’s a good way to keep people closed minded and trained. When they are not exposed to people different from them, they can keep their bigoted ignorant thoughts.
