Illinois Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton won Tuesday’s Democratic primary for U.S. Senate, edging out two sitting members of the U.S. House to advance to a November general election against Republican nominee Don Tracy, the former state party chair.
The retirement of U.S. Sen Dick Durbin, the Senate’s longtime No. 2 Democrat, triggered a competitive campaign on the Democratic side, drawing as candidates Stratton and U.S. Reps. Raja Krishnamoorthi and Robin Kelly, among others.
Furious fundraising and sharp elbows marked the race, which tested the influence of Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker. The governor, whose name has been floated as a 2028 presidential contender, backed Stratton.
Kat lost, but so did AIPAC…
I’m nowhere near as excited about a billionaire buying so many primary elections as the billionaire owned media is for some reason tho.
Was happy to see Stratton has spoken out against Schumer tho
Kat did pretty well but she has no trust from the community. She moved here less than 2 years ago. Daniel Biss, on the other hand, has been involved in local politics for a long time and has built up a lot of goodwill among his constituents.
If Kat runs here again in 4 years, I suspect she has a great chance of winning. But you can’t just roll in because an incumbent is retiring and expect a social media blitz will win you a seat at 26 years old.
Yeah, Kat will be around for a long time and Biss doesn’t seem bad.
AIPAC tried to sponsor him, he turned them down, and AIPAC is still trying to take credit.
I’ve also seen people paint Biss as an “establishment Democrat” which is a term often used to mean “established politician whom the community trusts.”
Policy-wise, Kat and Biss and almost the same. Biss is a progressive Democrat, not some old neoliberal
