A few weekends ago, his Vancouver Island map won first place in the reference category at the CaGIS Map Design Competition, an international contest. In 2024, his Sea-to-Sky map won the same award as well as “best of show.”

    As someone who works in GIS, making maps for fun in my spare time sounds like the polar opposite of fun to me. All the power to this guy though!

    This is really cool! As someone into design and who tried to get into GIS before realizing it wasn’t for me, I didn’t realize cartography was even still a “thing” – let alone the creative and storytelling aspects.
