Forestry companies hold licences to log in Canada’s inland temperate rainforest, home to endangered caribou and rare lichens. That makes a proposal for a new provincial park more urgent than ever

Sure there’s reason to log: a few people can make their profits temporarily increase, and provide jobs for a few dozen people.
Is it a good reason? No. But it’s a reason, and I came up with it after a second’s reflection.
Ding ding ding, we have a winner!
It’s a perfect example of privatizing profits while socializing costs. Horgan and Eby will be remembered for sitting on the solution while the last of are forests are razed to the ground.
You might hate to hear it, but even our social systems, healthcare and all, are built around “privatizing” profits.
Even if things are nicely socialized for everyone or at least most, you still have to grow in order to function as an economy. This is basically the reason why the nice social democracies decayed into thatcherite systems. We’re just being actively ignorant by not wanting to recognize that the tail of the dragon, social democracy, belongs to a whole beast.
