Vocabulary matters. You’re pointing to a very similar journalistic/political bias. The most obvious of which is that “Israeli citizen slaughtered by terrorists!” vs. “253 Palestinians lost after strategic Israeli strike”
My favorite is the “Israeli Kidnapped from tank”. Not even kidding.
Describing IDF soldiers and illegal settlers (prisoners of war) as “hostages” vs. Palestinian children, adults, all held without trial by Israel in what could only be described as concentration camps, as “prisoners”.
Once you start noticing this type of passive/active language bias you start to recognize it everywhere.
Some of it is unconscious. A result of living in patriarchy and white supremacy. Most often from normies that have been trained to use that language. But, when it comes to media, it is almost always intentional to manufacture concent for the narrative they are trying to form.
Check out “title history” of news articles and you’ll see in real time how this language adapts to the response of viewers or internal critics trying to ensure the correct conclusion is reached by the reader.
