The Alaska Republican confirmed his participation in talks that have been ongoing behind the scenes for weeks.

“There’s a number of people involved,” said Sullivan in an interview. So far, the only other Republicans to make their participation in the discussions public have been Sens. Tommy Tuberville of Alabama and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska.

    Sullivan made it clear the ideas floated inside the working group are not part of the current negotiations with Democrats to reopen government, and that he agreed with GOP leadership’s position that cross-party collaboration on the fate of the Affordable Care Act tax credits could only begin in earnest once the shutdown ends.

    He noted he and his Republican colleagues are looking at potential new income caps for who can claim the enhanced tax credits. The group is also exploring instituting new minimum amounts for out-of-pocket premiums and guardrails to restrict the subsidies from plans that cover abortion services.
