Jeffries began a marathon speech just before 5AM EDT, after the budget reconciliation bill moved to a floor vote. A budget reconciliation cannot be filibustered, but he is holding the floor and postponing the vote until citizens are awake to prevent it from passing under the cover of night.

He has been reading letters of concern from his constituents aloud, so Republicans are forced to hear the impact of their support for these cuts.

Keep finding reasons to hate on good actions by Democrats. This post is about Jeffries doing what he can to bring attention to the vote with the little control he has.

You’re the shmuck making it about the NYS mayoral race, and it’s not even your city. The Dems deserve plenty of criticism. It’s childish to shoehorn it into every post.

If you must talk about Jeffries representing his constituents, you should be informed. His district (NY-8, East Brooklyn) voted overwhelmingly for Cuomo. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2025/06/24/us/elections/nyc-mayor-primary-results-precinct-map.html

Nah. I’ve been left of the Democrats since the 90s, but I’ve always been very engaged in politics. Protesting, volunteering for elections, occasional stumping…

I loudly support good actions on Lemmy, because users always seem happy to provide the criticism. There’s no such thing as a good or bad person, just good and bad actions. This was a good action, that I believe warranted recognition.
