China coming to save the PC gaming market
i dunno. i just worked on one of their ‘gaming’ rigs. weird chinese-branded everything. 3 months old, won’t stay running. crashes constantly. re-installs don’t help. it’s trash. the vendor has all but disappeared. still has their storefront but they don’t answer, and amazon won’t help either.
even though i swapped out the atrocious no-name motherboard so now it’s at least usable, i expect to see it again with a failed psu, gpu, or ram.
they might make it on availability or price, but longevity or reliability they have a lot of work to do.
There is a difference between the cheap Chinese crap and the stuff they’re actually trying to be competent with. Chinese made quality products are taking over markets. For example they’re making a huge splash in the motorcycle industry with CFMOTO.
None of that matters. If they make stable ram I don’t care about their “gaming rigs”
Last week, GLM 5.3 flash was the most used model in the world (they made it free for that week). When the week ended, they announced that it had been a stress test for their entirely chinese inference infrastructure.
Goodbye Nvidia.

I’m gonna take a wild stab that the US will put tarrifs on them that nullify any savings or ban them outright due to “security concerns”.

You know, every single story I see about China talks about how “they’re going to be” this or that. Personally I think it’s funny how the CCP stopped subsidizing solar, now it’s dropped to 5% of what it was. Before that it was real estate being subsidized and there’s dozens of empty ghost cities now. Now it’s electric cars because China has almost no oil reserves and almost no domestic oil production. Wonder what’s next? They’ve already opened 50 coal power plants in the past two years, maybe they’re moving to AI next, then all these people who bought shit Chinese cars have no aftermarket repair options. Even being incredibly subsidized, only 3 of about 75 Chinese car manufacturers are profitable.
I’d like more competition on the RAM market as much as the next person, but surely a quick production turnaround means the quality is bad? I know Chinese products have had bad reputation on quality but I thought they are past that?
